Let’s get to know each other

Here’s a bit of my story

My name is Mia. I’m an individual and couples/relational therapist (LMFTA #MG61361423) in Seattle, WA. It’s important to me that you know a bit about me before we choose to work together. I see our working relationship as one of the most essential parts about the therapy process. As a client of therapy myself, I know that it can feel awkward or weird opening up to someone that you don’t know. In an effort to eliminate some of the “not knowing” of the process, here’s a bit of my story: I was born and spent the first few years of my life in Hawaii, and later moved to the Seattle area. My parents immigrated to the United States from the Philippines, so I am a first generation American. I grew up surrounded by a lot of family that included my extended family.

There is a saying about therapy that you can only bring others as deeply as you’ve gone yourself. I am committed to my own healing journey as well as yours.

I started my own therapy journey after I experienced a crisis in my life, and have since been with several different therapists over the years for different reasons. I learned that fit with your therapist is important, and how to be vulnerable with another person, and most of all, with myself.

I’ve always been inspired by the human experience, and human connection. I love seeing human experience (besides actually experiencing it) the most in art forms - especially music, and theatre.

I majored in Communication in my undergraduate years, emphasizing in social interaction. I loved learning about nonverbal, intercultural, and interpersonal communication. I spent some time in Education as a School Counselor, with experience with grades K-12. My love of human connection, and being with people as they navigate life situations brought me to my life path as a therapist. I studied Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy at Seattle University.

I love this work, and being in connection and relationship with people. The opportunity to be with you as part of your healing journey is sacred. I don’t take my clients opening up to me and trusting me with intimate details of their lives, and relationships, lightly. I am happy to be here with you for however long our paths intertwine.

Identity work is important to me, and something I’ve been discovering and re-discovering about myself as the years go by. I identify as a Filipino, pansexual, cis gendered female, and spiritual (non-religious) person.

Thanks for being here for a part of my story; I look forward to being there for yours.
